One of my favorite DRI’s, Pembroke Gardens. My Client had a major traffic issue. We had a major problem on the Transportation Element of the DRI. For 5 consecutive years, State Farm had rated Pines Blvd and Flamingo Rd as the most dangerous intersection in the State
I called an old friend (a mentor), he taught me all about parallel facility analysis. He was then with FDOT and said to him, Scott, I have a potential solution to Pines and Flamingo! He was gracious and humored and curious about my potential solution.
My answer was very simple, a flyover at Pembroke Road and I-75. He very quickly realized this was a real solution. He asked how we do this and I said we do a 4 party agreement on a CIG’s grant, between the State, County, Pembroke Pines and my client, to fund the overpass. Scott said to me, you have to sell this idea to the City and gave me the name of the Assistant City Manager to call. So I called that ACM, he immediately understood the deal and. Said he would get it done and he did!
On a side note, I eventually went on to work for that ACM and consider him among my my trusted friends!
